Finding your Flow State

Mind to Matter by Dawson Church

If you are a creative, you know that the most creative and inspired work happens from a flow state.  Working from a state of stress and anxiety rarely produces anything memorable.  After spending years in a stressful job, my mind and body seemed to be conditioned to exist in a state of stress; I had little recollection of what a flow state felt or looked like.  Seeking an escape one particularly challenging day, I sought the calming influence of my go-to podcast who happened to be having a conversation with Dawson Church, Ph.D. – a healing researcher and an award-winning author.  Talk about synchronicity!

I listened to this podcast three times and could not wait to dive into the world of Dawson Church and his research on rewiring the brain for joy and creativity.  So, I grabbed his book, “Mind to Matter, and devoured it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this book so engaging. Dawson dives into the heart of how we learn to go back to living in a flow state and presents “science-y“ content  that sustained my interest and didn’t have my squirrel brain wandering about. Throughout the book he sprinkles in fascinating narratives that tie together science, the brain and our own higher powers. And guess what? He even tackles synchronicity and throws in bonus content for each chapter on his website.

My well-loved, heavily highlighted and dog eared copy is a testament to the impact of this transformative read.  I am successfully conditioning my mind and body to live a in a peaceful state and would recommend this book to anyone looking to do the same. Next up on my reading list is Dawson’s most recent book Bliss Brain: The Neuroscience of Remodeling Your Brain for Resilience, Creativity and Joy.  I would love it if you would join me!
